Meet the Executive

Like any organisation, it takes a lot of work, time, and effort to keep Longford Rugby Club running smoothly.  There are a number of people who, behind the scenes,  are doing just that here at Longford Rugby Club.  We have an executive board who govern the club in accordance with the club constitution and oversee the direction and development of all aspects of the club. The executive committee is a group of elected members working in each role to ensure the smooth running of the club.  Here we introduce the current members or the committee and board of the club.

Schools Rugby

Longford Rugby Club hosted a county wide schools Tag rugby blitz on Friday last.  Schools from the parishes of Mullinalaghta, Moyne, Ballinalee, Ardagh and Stonepark attended and participated in some very exciting rugby.  It was fantastic to see over 150 children in action at the club from the schools, which was the culmination of the recent block of coaching provided in the schools by club CCRO Aoghan Clarke.

St. Mel’s junior team played in the second round of the Duff Cup, the Leinster development cup competition.  St. Mel’s were shorn of a number of key players on the day. The inexperience told during the game as St. Marys Drogheda took the lead mid-way through the first half.  Mel’s dug deep with Maxine at 9 and centre after Mel’s losing a player to injury playing a pivotal role to keep them in the game.  Danny Kelly and Senan Murphy were prominent in the second half as St. Mel’s fought back and claimed two tries from Mikey Glennon and Joseph Davidson.  Unfortunately, it was too little too late.  One wonders if the team played the first half with the grit and determination the had in the last 20 minutes the result would have favoured the home side, however the missing players were the difference on the day.  Onward and upwards as the team play one more league match before an eagerly awaited Leinster Schools league semi-final.

Boot room

Parents - Why not check out the hugely popular Boot room here at Longford rugby club where we have a self replenishing stock of replacement boots.  You drop in a pair you no longer need and replace it with a pair that fits your child. That way your pair of boots doesn’t go to waste and someone else gets to benefit also, thus also helping someone else save a few Euros.

If you have any boots that you wish to donate or exchange, please bring them into minis training and drop off the office for the attention of Gerry Carty or Pauline Marlowe who will assist with selecting the replacement pair.  Boots should be clean, laces intact and no missing studs.  No blades will be taken in.

Please note it is not possible to guarantee there will be a suitable replacement available however we have rarely not had some to choose across a wide range of sizes.

Sin Bin

The Sin Bin is open for Sunday Lunch and is available for functions/events outside these times. It is also open on match days. Phone 087 346 4914 for bookings or email sinbinbookings@outlook.com.   Check out the Sin Bins Facebook page for update, specials, and updated opening hours; www.facebook.com/sinbinlongford/
