What have you got out of Woman’s Rugby? ‘I have made friends for life in a brilliant team sport that is suitable for all shapes and sizes and has a fantastic social side’.

Q&A about Woman’s Rugby:

1. Will I get hurt?
This is the most common question we get asked. Like all sports we can't guarantee you will have a bump or bruise-free experience but we can find a position you are comfortable in & that suits you best. We will teach you how to tackle properly & how to protect yourself.
2. I have never played rugby or any sport before, can I play?
Yes, definitely. We will go through the basics with you and then you will pick it up as you go.
3. Do I need to be fit?
No. You will build up your fitness during the training sessions so don't worry if you haven't run in years. All fitness levels are welcome.
4. Am I too small/too tall, too young/old, not strong enough, etc. to play?
For rugby to work we need diversity small, tall, fast, powerful all combine to make a team which is why it's such an amazing sport to play. You must be over 18 and there is no age limit.
5. Do I need to know the rules?

Absolutely not, we don't expect you to know the rules. Rugby is easy to grasp. We will teach you as we go but the best way to learn is through experience.
6. Do I need football/rugby boots?
If you want to try it out, we can arrange for you to borrow a pair of boots for a few sessions & if you love it then you can think about purchasing a pair. As our Sam says: "try before you buy!"
7. I'm in college so I can't train during the week?
That's ok, we have a lot of girls in college. We switch training to Fridays when college returns & all our matches are at weekends.
8. Will there be social activities?
Yes! One of the best parts of playing rugby is the chance to make new friends. There are events organised in the rugby club throughout the year and the ladies team enjoy a night out or two throughout the season!!

The upcoming season: Longford are playing in Division 4 of the Leinster League this year.  The team are in a rebuilding phase with lots of new players coming on board.  This actually makes it a great time to start playing for the first time.  The focus of this season is on making sure everyone enjoys their rugby while learning at every training session and game.  It is a great group of players who are very supportive of each other and will improve over the season.

On Woman’s rugby: Woman’s rugby is one of the fastest growing Woman’s team sports in the world.  It offers a great team environment for all sizes and indeed, the opportunity to play on the international stage with Ireland.  Furthermore, Rugby 7’s is now an Olympic sport, with the Irish Woman’s team making great strides on the international 7’s circuit.

If anyone wants to play; Give Nuala a call on 0862482005 or log on to the Longford Woman’s Rugby Facebook page www.facebook.com/longfordrugbyteam.

How will Ireland do in the World Cup:  They could go all the way.
