Longford Women faced CYM in a top of the table clash at home and were looking to keep their unbeaten start to the season going. Longford received from the kick off and immediately put pressure on the away side. Longford were playing well and put a well judged kick into touch.  Longford contested well in the lineout and gained possession. A powerful carry from Fidelma Fallon and good passes through the back line by Megan Banahan and Leanne Keegan saw Megan Jobe breaking tackles to power across the line for a try.  The conversion was narrowly missed by Banahan.  CYM then gained possession and put Longford under pressure.  The home side defended well and a crucial tackle from Maria Kellegher resulted in a line out for Longford.  Longford were playing well with lineouts and scrums solid and the backs looking dangerous.  Strong scrummaging was to be a feature of Longford’s play on the day.  Good carries by Hannah O’Shea and Dora Ledwith kept CYM under pressure.  However, some silly mistakes from both sides resulted in penalties for Longford and CYM. Longford remained switched on and a brilliant kick and chase from Rebecca O’Hara put Longford inside the opposition 22. Strong carries from O’Shea and Leanne Keegan made ground with quick ball out to Maria Kelliher who powered over the line for the second the of the game under the posts.  Banahan scored the conversion leaving the score at 12-0.  CYM put the pressure back on Longford from the kick off turning over the ball. Some good work by the away side saw them get the ball out wide but Patricia Hourican on her first cap put in a great tackle to stop CYM in their tracks.  A great steal from Michelle Farrell won possession back for Longford. CYM then conceded a penalty for not rolling away. Quick hands from Longford out to the back line left Keegan making a great run for the line. A dangerous tackle on Keegan resulted in a yellow card for CYM player. Longford continued to put pressure on the away side but at half time the result remained 12-0.

Longford kicked off to restart the second half, with the forwards and backs working well together they gained possession. Scrum half Emma Dardis was playing well making good carries and passing well to the back line. A brilliant run from Kelleher following a scrum landed her over the line for a try. The conversion was not be this time with Banahan narrowly missing. Longford dug in and forwards Emma McHugh, Natalie O’Reilly and Roisin Shaw made some crucial carries making ground to inside the CYM 22. CYM did not give up and gained possession from a steal at the ruck.  A kick from CYM followed by a kick from Longford saw Jobe placing her boot to the ball with the ball landing in the CYM in goal area and CYM placing the ball down for a 22 drop out. Longford regained possession following good determined pressure.  A penalty to Longford saw some good interplay between backs and forwards which resulted in Longford making good territory.  Some quick thinking from Kelliher then saw her power through numerous tackles and ground the ball over the line for a converted try.  Longford continued to keep CYM under pressure. Some strong carries from forwards O’Reilly, Ledwith and Irene Murtagh gained Longford more ground. Banahan then took the ball on just outside the CYM try line and powered over for the last try of the game, which she also converted.  Longford kept CYM at bay for the remainder of the game and finished the game for a bonus win on a scoreline of 31-0.
