Longford had their first home game of the season against Swords on Sunday. Two more new players took to the field and for the majority of the rest of the team this was only their second game. It was a perfect day for rugby with only a slight breeze. Longford kicked off into Swords who gathered the ball well and straight away put Longford under pressure. Swords were attacking well and started putting some nice phases together and the Longford defence was being well tested. Longford were guilty of giving away a lot of penalties early on as they were finding it hard to get into the game. Longford slowly started to get into the game and after a few good moves they were now putting the visitors under pressure. Swords won a scrum in the Longford 22 and with Laura Gallagher putting their scrum half under a lot of pressure longford managed to win back possession. A great pick and go from Amanda Lennon sucked in a few defender's and some quick feet from Laura saw her break free and run the length of the field for a great try under the posts. Emma Dardis slotted over the conversion to give the home side a 7 to 0 lead.

Longford regained possession from the kick of with Rebecca Duffy taking it into contact, some quick recycling gave the backs a few good breaks with Nicola Farrell and Joanne McCormack working well together. Swords conceded a penalty and Emma Dardis stepped up to take it but narrowly missed. It was now time for Swords to have a bit of possession and it took some great tackling from Kirsty Smyth, Irene Murtagh and Magaret Mckenna to stop them. Half time score 7 to 0

Swords got the game started for the second half with a kick into longford. But it wasn't long till Swords won back possession and they were on the attached when Lorraine Connor brilliantly intercepted a pass and ran in under the posts for a try which Dardis converted to leave the score 14 to 0. The home team were now starting to play with a bit of confidence Leanne Early was bursting through tackles and with Rachel Davis and Rebecca Loftus getting stuck in it was all attack from the home side. Swords conceded another penalty and a quick tap and go caught the away team off guard some great play between Lennon, Connor and Gallagher saw Laura go over in the corner for her second try, the conversion was missed 19 to 0. Swords were finding it hard to get out of their 22 and Nicola Farrell was putting in some serious tackles. Lorraine Connor again made a great break and almost got away but got pulled down just inside the 22 again some good work by the pack saw the ball go out to the backs and after some great off loads scrum half Laura Gallagher crashed over in the corner for her 3rd try not bad for her first ever game. The conversion was missed and Longford finished up winning by 24 to 0. This was a great result and will build confidence in what is a very new team.
