Don't worry about fitness, we will help you get up the required level and if you have not played rugby or much support before.  The most important thing is attitude.

U15 Midlands Development Squad festival

Joseph Davidson throws in the ball

Screening for the Leinster Rugby Midlands development squad took place at CPL Park on Saturday.

Teams from all the Midlands clubs attended on a bitterly cold morning to display their skills in front of the team of observers.

Longford started well with a win v neighbours Mullingar. In a repeat of the same play last week, Derek Belton received the short throw from the lineout and darted in from 5m to secure the game.

Game 2 v Ravens was a defeat where we leaked 2 cheap scores and didn’t recover. As this was the third game of the morning and the lads idle for game 2, we were sluggish after the break.

Game 3 saw a lot of defending against a big Edenderry team. A few of our lads were standing off which allowed Edenderry sneak the win.

Game 4 and the final game of the day saw the lads awaken somewhat and it wasn’t long before Shane McGuigan opened the scoring. The downfield breeze played havoc with the lineouts and the boys resorted to tap and go for penalties. The last score came from the back of a 5m scrum as the call was spread wide to George Burns who made no mistake in touching down wide on the right. The boys enjoyed their day and many hope they were showing enough to be included in next season’s squad.

Sincere thanks to Gerry Carthy, former youth player, Ireland/Leinster U19  Shane Mallon and current Midlands development squad member, Ciaran Heffernan, who each  spoke with the team beforehand.  Many thanks also, to everyone who gave their time to help out on the morning.

Next week we play Edenderry away in the Leinster league on Saturday morning.
