Longford Women lose out on the road   31/01/2019

270119 Leinster Women’s League Division Portlaoise 40 Longford 0

By Nuala McGoey Women’s Head Coach

Longford Women travelled to Portlaoise on Sunday hoping to build on last week’s good win versus league leaders, Naas. Disappointingly, Longford had to drop to play 13 a side, as Portlaoise were unable to field a 15 a side team. The home side kicked off and Longford put a few phases together but were wasteful with the ball.  Portlaoise had a scrum and worked a good move to break several tackles and score under the posts which was converted. Longford then lost their own line-out and Portlaoise again cut loose due to some poor defending and ran in over the try line only for the Portlaoise player to knock it on trying to run in under the posts. It just wasn't going to be Longford’s day with mistakes being made all over the pitch and by half time they found themselves 19 to 0 down. Longford came out in the second half looking for a much improved performance but it wasn't to be and no matter what they tried nothing seemed to work.  Portlaoise were very good at stealing ball at ruck time and spreading the ball out wide. The home side had a strong wind in the second half and used it well putting in plenty of kicks. Longford just had no answer to the determined home side and ended up losing 40 to 0 in a very disappointing performance compared to last week.  Next Sunday they are on the road again to take on Dublin team CYM.

The Warriors train every Tuesday and Friday night at 7.30 PM. New players of all fitness levels are welcome, even if they have not played before. Contact Nuala on 082482005.
