Development XV hit the road for first round of cup   29/01/2018

Longford Development side will be taking to the road next Sunday to see if they can continue the fine vein of form that they have been showing in the league to the cup competition. The Provincial Towns Seconds Cup will see them travel to Clonattin in Gorey, County Wexford.

Longford have been putting in fine performances thus far this season. The mixture of experience and young talent as seen them push for honours in the seconds league. Under the guidance of Robert Lee the Development squad have notched up a number of impressive wins.

The competitiveness for places and the enthusiasm players put in as they look to stake a claim on a first team spot have contributed toward making this one of the best season's Longford Development side have enjoyed for some time.

The Provincial Towns 2nd XV Cup was first staged in 1969 when Arklow were the inaugural winners. To date the Cup has been won by 23 clubs with the leader board headed by Kilkenny with seven victories.

Longford have shown that they have every right to consider themselves worthy of progress in the competition, but the trip to Wexford will not be be an easy one. Longford take on Gorey in Clonattin, kick off is at 15:00 this Sunday 4th February.
