Longford Woman enjoy emphatic win on the road   05/12/2017

Longford ladies travelled to North Meath for their last away game before Christmas hoping for their first away win. Captain Emma Dardis kicked off and straight away Longford put pressure on the home team forcing a knock on, with the referee  playing advantage Irene Murtagh picked the ball up and burst through several tackles to go over for a try which was converted by Emma.  North Meath kicked off and great defending again forced a knock on. From the scrum Laura Gallagher spotted a gap and out paced everyone to score under the post's with Emma adding the extra two points. Longford were  working hard at the rucks and a great turn over by Rebecca O Hara saw the ball go out to Nicola Farrell who gives a great pass to Sam Lulham who burst through several tackles and a great off load to Laura on the wing saw her pin her ears back and score in the corner,  the conversion was narrowly missed by Emma. Confidence was now growing among the away team and a great steal by Fidelma Fallon led to the ball going out the backs with Laura going in under the posts with the conversion by Emma. Coming up to half time Longford had a lineout inside the opposition 22 the forwards set up a maul and when the ball comes out to centre Michelle Farrell there is no stopping her going over close to the posts for her first try and with Emma adding the two points the half time whistle is blown. 33 to 0

North Meath get the second half under way and put pressure on Longford, getting close to their 5 metre line. But some good defending sees the home team penalised for holding on and Emma Dardis puts in a hugh kick to relieve the pressure. From the lineout Laura puts in a clever chip kick and great chasing from Rebecca Loftus and Rebecca O Hara means Longford regain possession and a quick ruck gives Laura the space to run in under the posts with Emma kicking the conversion. Longfords forwards were counter rucking well with Kirsty Smyth and Margaret Mckenna managing to steal the ball they shipped it out to Laura Gallagher who again out paced everyone to score under the posts with Emma adding the two points.
 It was now time for Longford to again soak up some pressure and having been camped on their own 5 metre line they manage to get their hands on the ball and Emma puts in another great clearing kick and good chasing sees Longford get their hands on the ball and great hands between Emma, Rebecca O Hara and Laura sees Laura go in under the posts with the 2 points added by Emma.
Longford have a lineout 5 metres from the North Meath line and a great take from Rebecca Duffy sets up a maul, Fidelma breaks off and is stopped just short of the line, Laura picks and goes and pops a the ball to Emma who lays it off to Nicola Farrell who bursts over the line for her first try converted by Emma. Rebecca Duffy makes a great break in the middle of the field and some good support from Rachel Davis and Irene Murtagh sees longford 5 metres out Duffy picks again but knocks it on in reaching for the line. The forwards again put in some great work picking and going round the corners and another kick chase sees Nicola Farrell go over under the posts with the conversion from Emma to see the game finish Longford 68 North Meath 0. A speedy recovery to Rachel Mckenna who suffered a dead leg early on in the game. Longford now have Tallaght at home next weekend for their last game before the Christmas break
