Longford U12’s play at RDS

Congratulations to our U12’s who played last Friday evening at half time in the Leinster’s

21 – 13 win over Edinburgh in front of almost 14,000 people.

Longford were playing against a St. Brigids side from Foxrock in Co. Dublin. We played a mixture of under 12’s and 11’s to give all who travelled a chance to play in from of almost 14,000 spectators.

Longford travelled up en mass and with a lot of family members also travelling up on the team bus for what was a lovely dry evening in Dublin. The match experience itself went very quickly with St. Brigids getting quick off the mark with a try in the corner despite Longford’s best efforts. As Longford tried to regroup, St Brigid’s put the pressure on again and regained procession, and kept going through the phases and eventually broke the Longford defence again to score another try.

Longford’s heads did not go down.  We kept plugging away and in what was the move of the match, James Grehan got the ball in midfield and ran the length of the pitch and thought he has scored in the corner, only to be denied by his foot just touching the touchline as he sprinted past the frantic St. Brigid’s defence. The final whistle came but the players from both sides doing a lap of honour to great applause.

This was a great display so early on in the season as well as an unforgettable experience with some lads only returning to play after a few year’s absence and some very promising new players entering the ranks this year. Well done all.

The team comprised of:

Ciaran Heffernan, Conar Murtagh, Hugh Denniston, Olan Bracken, Alex Forde, Cathal O'Hara, Conor Mulligan, Jack O'Hara, Jack Reilly, James Grehan, Rian Browne, Senan Murphy, Derek Belton, Donnacha Golden, Donnacha Mc Govern, Mel Mulligan, Sean Ginty, Shane McGuigan, Tadgh McCauley, Tom Murray.
