Senior Awards 2010 Longford's senior players gathered in Co Longford Golf Club on Friday night last for the annual awards for both the men's and women's team. The awards represent a chance to reflect on the season gone by and offer an opportunity to acknowledge and reward those players who have excelled on the field of play during the year. Speaking at the awards, Club President Martin Maguire said it was another successful year for the club at senior level, with the senior team winning the Midland League trophy against Tullamore and the ladies winning the Division Three league title on a memorable day in Old Belvedere RFC. First to receive awards were the five Longford ladies players who represented the club at provincial level. Samantha Lulham, Yvonne Dowd, Lisa Brady, Orla Brady and Sharon McKeown all received a memento in recognition of their call-up for Connacht this season. Sharon received a second award to acknowledge her call up for Leinster last season. Following a presentation of the Division Three league medals to the ladies players, the awards moved on to the players' player awards, with Paul Gallogly and Maire Hanley picking up the respective awards. The most improved player awards were next and Michelle Bird and Ciaran Kennedy received the awards in this category. The player of the year had three recipients, with the following players winning awards: Keith Richardson (1st XV), Justin Forde (2nd XV) and Nuala McGoey. The club person of the year award went to Tommy Butler. Martin paid tribute to Tommy's work for the club during the season, which has seen the redevelopment of the clubhouse and, more recently, the adoption of a new set of club rules.
