Provincial Towns Cup Quarter-final Newbridge 40 Longford 10 Newbridge eased their way into the semi-finals of the Provincial Towns Plate against an understrength Longford side on Sunday last. Minus the services of many first team players - due to injury or unavailability - Longford battled well against their Division One opponents. An early try from the home-side, coupled with two penalties, gave Newbridge a 13-3 lead after 20 minutes - Colm Glynn converting the penalty in reply for Longford. Two further tries before the break put Newbridge firmly in control at 20-3 at half-time. A Hubie Connolly try in the second half, which was converted by Glynn, brought Longford back into the game. The score came after a sustained period of pressure and a good ball retention. Glynn made the break to send Connolly in for the try. They were unfortunate not to get over on at least two more occasions during a dominant period in the second half. However, Newbridge turned on the style in the closing stages, and ran in three tries in the final ten minutes to run out convincing winners. Longford: Micheal Egan, Ronan Keith, Stephen Carroll; Fran Deffew, Andy Hall; Derek Farrell, Hubie Connolly, Paul Gallogly; Dane Costello, Colm Glynn; Philip Dardis, JohnNauthtyon Garry Greene, James Connolly, Barry Trueick. Sub used: Justin Forde.
