Longford U6's/U7's Blitz

The U6's and U7's took place on Sunday 11 April at the main Longford Rugby pitch. A sunny day welcomed a great turn out, both players and supporters.

First match kicked off at 10:30 between the Green Giants vs. the Black Lions. Immediately a few minutes into the game, Darren O'Neill opened the Green Giants score with a well taken try from a series of passes involving Luke O'Miachain and Oisin Tormey. The Black Lions came back with a magnificent tip off from Brendan Naughton to Matthew Dillon who passed the ball to Ronan Under 6 and 7 blitzCollum after a gap was opened by Seamus Hanley and Darragh Campbell. The Green Giants did not lie down and quickly scored a try through excellent team work with a quick pass from Griffin Ledwith to Morgan Nowell.

Next game was between the Blue Bears and the Green Giants, new comer Rian Murphy tipped off passing the ball to Lisa Maria Leonard who made a fine run opening a huge gap in the Green Giants defence which saw the first try by Sam Davis in the corner. While the Green Giants tipped off, we saw Luke O'Miachain setting up Morgan Nowell who passed to Darren O'Neill who scored a try.  Dylan Hanly of the Blue Bears tipped off passing the ball to Oisin Finlay who moved the ball out the line. It was once again Griffin Ledwith's pass to Morgan Nowell which saw the last try of this game.

The final game was between the Black Lions and the Blue Bears; similarly to the two previous games, it was full of excitement, skill and talent; this gives us great confidence about the emerging talent and future success of the Longford Mini/Youths Rugby.

Many thanks to Hugh Connolly for his colourful refereeing style, Maria Keelty (Youth Coordinator) for organising such a fantastic day including the much appreciated refreshments and Shane for helping out the coaches. We would also like to thank all of the players who showed up on the day and especially their parents/guardians who turned up to support their kids. Finally a sincere thank you from your coaches Ray, Giovanni and Mairead, who do hope that this great day was enjoyed by all and they look forward to seeing you next Sunday at 10:15. The photos of Sundays blitz are up on Longfordrugby.com web site.
