Longford 1st XV play their final league game of the season on Saturday, April 3, against the Division Two champions, Portarlington. The Laois side have been the most consistent team in the league by quite some distance, and are currently 18 points ahead of second-placed team Clondalkin, who are the only team to defeat Portarlington this season. When the teams met in November last year, Portarlington scored two first-half tries to open commanding lead, before Longford rallied in the second half. A Colm Glynn penalty and a late Dane Costello try earned Longford the losing bonus point. Longford will be hoping to finish the league campaign on a high and consolidate their current fourth place position, which is under threat from Clane, who travel to relegated side North Kildare on Sunday. Kick-off on Saturday is at 3pm in the Demesne. The game was moved at the request of both teams, and was granted as neither are involved in promotion/relegations issues. Next for Longford 1st XV is the Provincial Towns Plate on Sunday week, April 11, at home to Wexford Wanderers, with the winners playing either Tullow or Newbridge in the quarter-final. Longford 2nd XV are at home to Dundalk in the Provincial Seconds Towns on Saturday week, April 10, kick-off 3pm. Meanwhile, Longford Ladies are due to play their Division Three League final on April 24 - details of which will be confirmed at a later date.
